It was the second day after the Panama JIT report but the future of political situation remains uncertain. Both, government and the opposition parties held their press briefings to declare their stance over the Panama JIT report. The ruling political party, PML-N clearly said that the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is not resigning. A cabinet minister, Ahsan Iqbal, mentioned the constitutions article 58-2B in context of the Supreme Court being the authority that’s going to exercise the right of removing PM Nawaz Sharif. Other ministers of the government also kept the same stance and called the whole Panama JIT report a conspiracy.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman, Imran Khan demanded resignations from not just the Prime Minister but also from the Chief Minister of Punjab, Mian Shahbaz Sharif and the Finance Minister, Ishaq Dar. He also demanded resignation of National Assembly Speaker, Ayaz Sadiq. All other political parties in Pakistan are also demanding resignation of Nawaz Sharif. Not just the political parties, but the Lahore High Court Bar has also demanded the same from PM Nawaz.
Now the question is, if PM Nawaz Sharif accepts the Panama JIT report and announce his resignation, who’ll be the next Prime Minister of Pakistan? or if he is not going to resign, then what are the opposition parties going to do? Sit tight (as always) and wait for elections?
