U.S. Withdrawal From U.N. Human Rights Council

In May, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced a “Zero Tolerance” approach and promised to prosecute the refugees and immigrants that cross that southern Mexico border without legal documents. As a part of policy the children are separated from parents and labeled as “unaccompanied minors”. Since the parents are detained, the future of minors are handed over to government or foster care. According to a report between May and April 2000 minors are sent to camps.

As we know Donald Trump the acting president of America has not been able to win over hearts as much as former president Barack Obama did and now with the recent separation of minors from their immigrants parent along with America’s withdrawal from united nations human rights council, things are tense. USA has always have had a huge part in United Nation Organization since it was formed by it after second World war post era. Some of it’s sustainable goals revolves around provision of equal education, health facilities, human rights, end poverty, and natural resources.

Under George Bush agency the administration were against to opt for membership in 2006 when the council was established. It became a member under administration of Obama in 2009. On Tuesday, 19th June USA ambassador Nikki Haley withdrew US as a member of human rights security council while claiming it:

“An organization that is not worthy of its name. We take this step because our commitment does not allow us to remain a part of a hypocritical and self-serving organization that makes a mockery of human rights” said ” it is not a retreat from human rights commitments” and accused the council of being “a protector of human rights abusers and a cesspool of political bias”

Further she said if reforms in favor of Israel are adopted “We would be happy to rejoin it.”

USA is the most sincere defender of Israel and it has been raving to withdraw for past year if suggestions made by America for Israel are not met. When the chief of human rights Zeid Ra’ad al-Hussein denounced Donald trump for his acts against immigrants, USA complaint that the council is biased against Israel and were given 18 months to set things right. No country has ever dropped out voluntarily. Libya was kicked out seven years ago.

The relations between Israel and America tells us how much its about protections of oppressive countries as it suits America and not purely about protecting human rights around the world.
