How to Get Ordinary Machine Readable Passport in Pakistan

Ordinary machine readable passport is the regular type of passport that is issued to everyone in Pakistan, having a valid computerized national identity card (CNIC). According to the existing passport policy, the first new passport can only be applied at the regional passport office of the applicant’s residential city, as per the CNIC. Government servants, armed forces personnel, employees of autonomous or semi government bodies, corporations and their family members are exempted from the restriction of this jurisdiction (family members include wife, children & dependents parents). Students can also apply for a new passport from cities other than their residence if they can provide a letter of recognition from the education institution.

List of Documents Required for New Ordinary Passport

Following is the list of documents required to get a new passport in Pakistan:

  • Original Bank Fee Receipt (Challan)
  • Original Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) with 2 photocopies
  • National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) with 2 photocopies – for overseas Pakistanis
  • No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the concerned department – If the applicant is a Government Servant
  • Foreign Passport along with its photocopy – If the applicant is a Dual-Nationality holder
  • Original Children Registration Certificate (Issued by NADRA) – If the applicant is under 18 years of age

Validity of Ordinary Passport in Pakistan

The Directorate of Immigration & Passports of Pakistan, under the authority by the Interior Ministry of Pakistan, can issue either a passport valid for 5 years or for 10 years. For an underage applicant (less than 18 years), only the passport with a validity of 5 years can be issued.

New Pakistani Passport Fees & Processing Time (Normal)

A normal new passport application processing takes approximately 3-5 days. An applicant has a choice of getting a 36 page, 72 page or 100 page passport with a validity of 5 or 10 years. Fees associated with each are mentioned in the passport fee table below:

New Pakistani Passport Fees & Processing Time (Urgent)

An urgent new passport application processing takes approximately 9-12 days. An applicant has a choice of getting a 36 page, 72 page or 100 page passport with a validity of 5 or 10 years. Fees associated with each are mentioned in the passport fee table below:

How to apply for new passport in Urdu

Steps to Follow at Passport Office

After gathering all the required documents listed above for a new passport application, along with the deposited fee receipt (challan obtained from the designated branches of national Bank), visit your city’s regional passport office & follow the below steps:

  • Go the customer services counter & present your original CNIC
  • Your photograph will be captured & you’ll be given a token number
  • Upon call of your token number, get to the designated counter for bio-metric verification & data entry
  • After that, you’ll be called for an interview & some general questions, like your intent for passport, will be asked by an assistant director
  • After the interview, you’ll be given the passport application processing receipt from the delivery counter & your passport will be available at the same regional office within the specified time period
