So you need reasons why you should not study in Pakistan’s only university that has made it to the top 500 universities in the world.
1- Hate being the person who has unequitable crushes. You feel me, right? We all have that one crush we know we can’t have. So this one time I saw this guy in the cafe and I swear it was love at first sight, it’s been 2 years and I haven’t seen him since then. (My heart aches.)
2- NUST is huge. When I say huge. I mean it. So if you don’t like walking. Don’t come here please. 🙂 Or may bring a truck load for every careem or uber you’ll have to order to go from one department to the other. I once took a taxi from my department to the business school and it charged me Rs 200/-.
3- My friend got this new car and we were cruising in NUST and, like, what’s the worst that can happen, right? I was driving at a 100 and my friends told me to tune it down to 50. I did. And then I got fined for over speeding. But to be honest that’s not really the worst that can happen, the car might skid and fall off a hill.
4- Wikipedia, Youtube and khan academy to the rescue since forever when we’re working on the projects. NUST has recently established the country’s first patent wall and now plagiarized projects will get patented right in the campus.
5- Art school is easy? LOL. I’d love to see you hanging on to dear life from the day you set foot in SADA, but you know what? It’s not all that difficult because NUST provides its students with facilities like A LAKE WHERE YOU CAN GO AND CRY ALL THAT YOU WANT. Some people even say that NUST’s authorities filled the lake with student’s tears. I know it sounds bizarre but after two years here, I have started to think that it might even be true. Studying in an art school, with things not coming out as I often plan, I have a lot of stress to deal with at a constant basis but I have to keep my suicidal thoughts at bay because the lake’s right outside my window.
6- So many events and seminars and happening at the same makes it difficult to choose which one to go to and which one to leave. So I Hate it when the squad is trying to find each other at the seminar but can’t because we are all at different seminars happening at the same time.
7- Remember that childhood best friend of yours that moved to the other part of the country while you were in grade one so you lost all contact with them. Yeah well, it will become extremely awkward and nostalgic when NUST’s entrance test hall will become a childhood reunion spot for both of you.
8- You FINALLY get day off from classes or the professor has mercy on you and lets you leave early. You’re all happy because now you’ll be able to finish off the season that you’ve been putting off for so long. Well GOODLUCK! Because now you can easily stream one 20 minute episode to pass all that free time. (Yup, that’s what we call jet speed internet here.)
9- All university gives you is stress. So the only comfort we get is when we’re with our friends or beaus. So this friend of mine is a hostelite and her beau’s a day scholar and she gave in to the stress university brings with itself and decided to get married but realized she had to be back by 9:30. (Curfew sucks.)
10- So we’re always studying (lol) and hardly get anytime to sleep during the night. With exams drawing near, the sleep cycle goes through drastic changes and well, the exam week is the only time of the semester when we get decent sleep. Ironic, right?
So I hope you got all the reasons to not study in one of Pakistan’s best universities. But believe me when I say that there is so much love underneath all this hatred. This place makes me want to hurl everything at the walls because of all the stress we have to deal with here but at the end of the day, this is the place where I wanted to be so I can’t really complain for getting what I wanted, right?
but then again, a very sincere advise for all those who’re reading this, please be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it all.
