While the gender discrimination and violence still breaths in Pakistan, our brave women are breaking from shells and proudly, we applaud them as well.
An all girls team, a group of 13 students from National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Islamabad has built a formula car in 5 months without any help of professionals. These women will participate as presenter of Pakistan against 30 other teams in an upcoming International Formula Student competition in Silverstone, England this month from 11th to 15th July.
We were among the lucky applicants to get our case approved. we have not only designed the car, but built it from scratch using local parts, including the engine, for the prototype, enabling them to keep costs down to $4,929. We made some of its parts ourselves in the university workshop, using lathe machines and welding some parts. It was a challenge, but we did it.”, said Harim Akhtar.
During the first visit to Rawalpindi auto spare parts market, girls were also told to sit at home because this was a guy’s thing but it didn’t crush the girls’ determination and confidence. According to the team, the formula car have 90 powerhouse engine and can cover the distance of 0-100 kilometers per hour in 4.5 seconds and they plan to formulate a car each year with even more improvements.
We wish them Good Luck!!
