Equality for all is the new motto for 2018 and especially inclusion for all including that of the transgender community. First we saw Naghma and Lucky, the transgender singers who were a part of the latest coke studio season.
Meet Maya Zaman who has become the first Pakistani transgender to launch her own ready-to-wear luxury line. Just like the adversities that unfortunately most of our transgender have to go through, Maya too was kicked out of her house at 17.
She struggled to find places to live because of her trans identity. She was able to get a diploma despite judgemental remarks and taunts from people around her. She further went on to get a degree in fashion designing and that’s what introduced her to the fashion world. Along with Fauzia, she has now opened her very own line named ‘Surkhabbi’.
May this new trend of inclusion prove to be a gateway for a new-found equality for all communities. Just like ‘Surkhabbi’ promotes the idea of diversity and inclusion. Moreover it has also given transgender individuals to be part of graphic designing, stitching, photographing and exhibiting the cloths.
It is a proud moment indeed not just for our transgender community but for the entire country itself that we’re finally promoting and accepting people no matter where they come from.
