Maria Wasti is one of Pakistan’s most famous and accomplished actress. She has established herself as a strong and successful professional in the highly competitive Pakistani entertainment industry.

This was the first of many drama serials she starred in.

She believes Bano Qudsia’s Kallo to be one of her most unforgettable plays. In other equally admired roles, she played a female victim in Baadlon Par Basera, who is forcefully led into marriage with a man in the United States of America on the phone and when she meets him for the first time, she realizes the man is older than the picture she saw him in.
Wasti is usually seen playing simple roles involving insightful issues regarding women in Pakistan. She has played roles depicting important women like Salma Murad and Lenin Peace Prize winner Bilquis Edhi. Wasti is known for being outspoken on several issues regarding women’s rights, gender impartiality and chauvinism.

Wasti has spoken that newer Pakistani plays should depict issues in today’s Pakistan. She named drugs and AIDS being some of the more sensitive ones. She also cites the motive for the reduction in the class of drama serials as being the lack of a supply of actors, actresses, writers, directors and producers.
In sight of these thoughts, Wasti opened a production house in 2002, where she has successfully produced several dramas and a dozen plays.
