Ko Ko Korina: A Ko Ko Catastrophe?

So, unless you’re under a rock you must know about the song in the heat currently, a cover of the legendary song Ko Ko Korina by Coke Studio, sung by Momina Mustehsan and Ahad Raza Mir, a song that did not get the response many would hope for.

And what makes this matter even more interesting is the fact that celebrities like Sajal Aly, the singers themselves, Waheed Murad’s son Adil Murad and even the Minister for Human Rights, Shireen Mazari jumped into the twitter feud unfolding between them.

The back and forth between Momina Mustehsan and Shireen Mazari had us all holding our breaths as they tried to justify their words. Adil Murad accused Coke Studio of being run by ‘Idiots’, while Shireen Mazari went on to call the song a massacre, with the general public calling it a violation of human rights.

Amongst this, Sajal Aly stood with the singers and took to posting her opinion and anger on the matter, telling everyone to ‘stop insulting someone’s efforts’, with Ahad Raza Mir finally responding to the matter through twitter as well, his words more sober and collected in contrast to others, which was a relief in this time of heat.

Was the matter blown out of proportion? Perhaps. After all it was just a song, with Ahad scoring a valid point: it’s a cover, the point is to be different from the original and if its not everyone’s cup of tea then that’s fine. But we do have to agree somewhere that yes, the cover does defame the song in the light of what it truly is, but that does not mean to bash the artists for simply trying to play with the strings.

So what do you think? Do you like the song, or simply hate it? Share your thoughts below!
