Is Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani Eligible For The Post

Sadiq Sanjrani is an independent candidate from Balochistan and e was the common candidate for the Chairmanship of Senate. Mr. Sanjrani won the chairman elections by securing 57 votes out of 103 total casted votes. He made the big upset by defeating the ruling party candidate Raja Zafar-ul-Haq. His Chairmanship has been challenged in Supreme Court (SC).  The Plea in the petition is that Sadiq Sanjrani is too young to be the Chairman of Senate.

The applicant who filed the petition against him argued that he is not eligible to hold a chairmanship of Senate due to his age. According to the Article 41(2), “A person shall not be qualified for election as President unless he is a Muslim of not less than forty-five years of age and is qualified to be elected as the member of the National Assembly”. The petitionary further claims that elections for the chairmanship of Senate should be conducted again.

Sadiq Sanjrani is youngest ever Chairman of the upper house of the Parliament as he was born on April 14th, 1978.

  1. If the election is anulled,it will open a Pandora box of disqualifying those newly elected, which was allowed by ECP,to run as independant.New nominations will be needed with all relevant documentaion and symbols allotted.ECP will be taken to SC on this matter.
