Stress is a natural feeling everyone experiences in the world of today. It often shows its colors physically without us realizing it’s happening. Sometimes, it can be good for you as it sends signals to your brain which tells you to be more alert and get out of danger. But often we’re stressed over there being no real danger around us. We just overthink about our past and future and drown in stress. In long term scenarios, it takes a toll on our bodies because it keeps releasing the hormones which increase our heart-rate and breathing rates.
Stress affects our body in different ways. Here’s how it does it:
Stress increases the production of acid in the stomach, which leads to heart burn and make it worse.

Stress can tear you down emotionally which ultimately turns into depression.
Stress triggers headaches. A lot of stress gives you tension which causes a pain in your head.
Stress makes harder for a person to sleep and if prolonged enough, a person may develop insomnia. Not getting enough sleep deprives us of the energy we need to stay active.
- Risk of heart attack
It’s surprising that stress can cause even a heart attack. Due to stress, increased heart rate and high blood pressure can damage arteries which can lead to a heart attack.
- Rapid breathing
When you are in stress, the muscles which help you in breathing are tensed up. This leaves in shortness of breath.
- High blood pressure
When you are in stress, your liver starts releasing extra sugar in the bloodstream which puts a person in a risk of diabetics.
- Weakened immune system
Long term stress makes your immune system weak and it’s unable to fight with bacteria which eventually causes infections and makes you sick.
- Missed periods
Too much stress can make you miss your periods and it can even stop them too. Fluctuating of hormones can cause disturbance in menstrual cycle. This isn’t good for a woman’s overall health.
- Fertility problems
Stress affects fertility too. Stressed men and women may find it harder to conceive a baby.
Stress disturbs your digestive system badly. It leads to stomach pain, nausea and other problems.
- High blood pressure
Due to severe stress hormones, your blood vessels are tightened which raises your blood pressure.
These are the effects of stress on your body. Stress is not good for the health. If any of these medical conditions happen to you, you might be stressed out. Take a little break and spend time on relaxing yourself. Don’t worry about everything in the future. Sometimes you need to have blind faith that everything is going to be okay. Stressing over the future constantly is honestly not worth it.
