After the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif as Prime Minister of Pakistan by the Supreme Court, the ruling party, PML-N has started to consider Hamza Shahbaz to be appointed as Chief Minister of Punjab. The political party has not been able to reach a consensus yet about this matter.
Currently, Shahbaz Sharif is the CM of Punjab province and the same province is the strongest hold of PML-N as well. After Shahbaz Sharif’s appointment as Prime Minister of Pakistan (which has already been decided), the position of CM in Punjab is going to be taken over by someone very close to the Sharif family. PML-N & the Sharif family can not lose their hold on Punjab.
A senior lawmaker from PML-N told a private TV channel that Shahbaz Sharif wants to make his son Hamza Shahbaz the Chief Minister of Punjab. Hamza Shahbaz is already performing his duties as deputy Chief Minister of Punjab but the final decision of his appointment will be done by Nawaz Sharif. He further said that whoever gets selected as next Chief Minister, will have to get instructions from Shahbaz Sharif. Shahbaz will be more satisfied with his son holding his ex position. Also, he wants his son to have a high level leadership experience.
He also said that Shahbaz Sharif will handle the CM Punjab affairs, though he’ll be the Prime Minister & his brother, Nawaz Sharif will oversea the PM house responsibilities from his personal residence in Raiwind. He also said that the responsibilities of Shahbaz Sharif will be doubled after the appointment of the new Chief Minister in Punjab and he will also monitor the affairs of Punjab along with his duties at the Capital. The PML-N lawmaker further said that if Hamza Shahbaz succeeded in fulfilling his duties in the CM’s office, he would be the strongest hope of the Chief Ministry in the next general elections in 2018.
