Books have been my sole companions for as long as I can remember and they’ve saved me from so much. In our lifetime, we will always always always come across a book that will influence and alter our lives completely.
I asked my friends to share one book that changed their perspective on life and on the way they think.
Everyone has read Harry Potter. I used to hate harry potter. I used to hate people who read harry potter. When I was in fifth grade, I was free after my finals and a cousin of mine suggested that I give harry potter a read. I obliged. And BAM! To this day, I have not come across a more profoundly written book. I love how the writer has etched a whole new world that we potterheads so badly want to be real. I love how that book proves that everything in this world, every action, every reaction, comes down to love.
“After all this time? Always”
These five letters sum up the whole series for me. Harry potter, in my opinion, goes deep beyond the concept of a magical world and a boy with a troubled past. It’s a book about family, friendship, courage and love. The only four things that we need. Please give it a read if you haven’t already. You won’t regret it.
Looking for Alaska
Read this book in 11th grade and I cried so much after reading it. John Green’s books are what dreams are made of. Hope. Devastation. Love. The Great Perhaps. How we all want to know that how something ends. How we don’t like to be uninformed. How we all want to matter. Story of a girl who couldn’t handle it towards the end and found her way out of the labyrinth of suffering straight and fast.
Left friends behind who tried to find their way out of her memories and promises. This book is beautifully written. Every word made my heart ache, for I too go seek a great perhaps.
All The Bright Places
A book so beautifully written about depression and what happens when people around us don’t get it. Theodore Finch (the main character) got my heart the moment I started reading the book.
You know the kind of book that takes your heart out and crushes it. Yeah? All the bright places is that book. A beautifully written book about how friends and family are important and how more often than not, they don’t get it.
A book about a guy who wants to kill himself but every time, something good happens and he stops.
I literally cannot stress over how beautifully words have been put together in this book. Please give it a read. And don’t forget a few boxes of tissues to keep nearby too.
The Kite Runner
I am sure most of the people here would’ve read this book. Khalid Husseini has a way of crushing hearts with his words, maybe that’s the thing about the good writers. A book touching the horrors of the trauma of child abuse, post war Afghanistan, how love knows no bounds and how regrets can last a lifetime.
I cried and cried and cried and cried while reading this book and I had to literally take a break from everything while reading it because I couldn’t function properly. I am a killer for beautifully written words and this book had me hooked till the very last page. Please please please give it a read if you haven’t read it yet.
A Thousand Splendid Suns
Khalid Hosseini strikes again. I read this book before i read the kite runner and I went through a roller coaster of emotions. A book about betraying relationships and how life goes on, with or without someone. A book about how a man’s heart won’t stretch to make room for a woman. A book that will grasp you and will leave your soul bleeding.
Written over the course of about a decade, this book is masterpiece by bano qudsia. Touches life’s sensitive issues like a bird’s feather stroking your face but will leave an impact on you that will last for a lifetime. This book talks about unrequited love. Second chances. And how the road to one’s heart does not go through their body. The relationship of two souls. Every word of this book falls like a heavy stone on your heart and it takes a while to absorb everything that book tells you.
Me and Rumi
A very profoundly written book about shamis-i-tabrezi who transformed Rumi from a learned religious teacher into the world’s greatest poet of mystical love. This book will take you through the highest highs and you’ll realize that love means saving the one you love. Shamis-i-tabrezi gave him a new ideology and saved him. Is it even love if you can’t save the person you love?
Aannnd that’s it from my side!
