According to World Health Organization (WHO) globally 2.3 billion people around the World do not have basic sanitation facilities which is the potential cause of diseases like cholera, diarrhoea and dysentery and death of hundred of thousands people per year.

The Chinese leader Xi Jinping has declared “toilet revolution” a policy priority across the country. A three-day event was organized in China that aimed at the launch of revolutionise sanitation technology that would operate off grid to separate solid waste and liquid and remove harmful by-products. A research to estimate how quickly the new category of off grid solutions will scale. According to Bill Gates, the displayed inventions are the “most significant advances in sanitation in nearly 200 years”

Philanthropist and Microsoft founder Bill Gates as a part of his speech at Reinvented Toilet Expo event in Beijing showed up with a jar of human faeces to highlight bacteria and sanitation related diseases for a showcase of new toilet technologies.

“I have to say, a decade ago I never imagined that I’d know so much about poop,” “And I definitely never thought that Melinda would have to tell me to stop talking about toilets and faecal sludge at the dinner table.” – the entrepreneur Mr Gates joked at the conference.

He also pointed out the jar of faeces beside him could contain “as many as 200 trillion rotavirus… 20 billion Shigella bacteria, and 100,000 parasitic worm eggs”.

In last seven years The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has spent more than $200m on researching field to reinvent toilet that would process human waste without the sewer system. Particularly to help countries/cities those are developing or do not have enough money for a proper sewer system build. The foundation hope to get these in trend for the schools and apartment buildings first and gradually become affordable for households as well.

Twenty new sanitation products intended to destroy harmful bacteria and prevent disease were also displayed at the showcase.
