Ali Azmat is a Pakistani singer, actor and songwriter who rose to fame with his sufi rock band, Junoon which eventually led to an equally famous solo career. He was the first Pakistani musician to perform at the United Nations General Assembly. He sang ‘Dosti’ whose message was in line with the UN’s message and is still sung throughout the country.
Ali Azmat’s Age and education
Ali Azmat was born on the 20th of April in 1970 and is 47 years old today. He originates from Lahore, Pakistan and has always been firm in his beliefs in the teachings of Islam from a very young age. He gained lower level education from Lahore Grammar School and went to Australia for higher education. However he had to return to Pakistan without finishing his degree due to familial financial constraints.
Ali Azmat’s Musical Career: Band and solo
His first band, ‘Jupiters’ was one of the pioneers of pop music in Pakistan and released only a few albums before disbanding in the late 90s. With them, he wrote his most popular song ‘Dosti which he later released with his band ‘Junoon’. Junoon was formed in 1990 and struggled to make a dent in the music industry for the first few years. Junoon gained popularity not after its second but after its third album when its song ‘Jazba-e-Junoon’ became the title song for the Cricket World Cup. The fourth album gained the band platinum certification and allowed the band to go on tour. Ali Azmat also recently made his acting debut in Bilal Lashari’s 2013 hit film, Waar in which he played the role of Ejaz khan. He will be reprising this role in the film’s sequel.

Ali Azmat married Fariha Khan in September 2011 and they have two daughters together; Ella and Mia.
