Deepika Padukone the 21st century starlite, bollywood actress and the Live Love Laugh Foundation (NGO to help those struggling with mental illness) founder’s next project is producing her first movie based on the true story of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. The film will be directed by Meghna Gulzar and Deepika Padukone herself will portray the role of acid victim Laxmi Agarwal. The film is yet to be titled. The film will cover the next 10 year events of Laxmi’s life struggles.
“When I heard this story, I was deeply moved as it’s not just one of violence but of strength and courage, hope and victory. It made such an impact on me, that personally and creatively, I needed to go beyond and so the decision to turn producer.”, said the 32- years old actress Deepika.
“I’m grateful and encouraged that she was so spontaneous in her decision to do the film. When you take a face as beautiful as hers and portray her as an acid attack survivor, the magnitude of the violence and damage is that much more resounding,” Meghna Gulzar told Filmfare.

Laxmi Agarwal was attacked at the age of 15, in 2005 at a New Delhi bus stop by a man twice her age who was also known to her family, after she had turned down his advances/ marriage proposal. Her story was published in a series on acid attack victims by Hindustan Times and received a International Women of Courage award by US First Lady Michelle Obama in 2014. She works as a TV show host and a campaigner with Stop Acid Attacks. Laxmi was chosen as NDTV Indian Of The Year, heads the NGO Chhanv Foundation, which aims to ensure better lifestyle and mental health for acid attack survivors in India
